Minimally-invasive approach
No scars, bruising or swelling
No incisions or general anesthesia
No recovery time (24-hour downtime)
The balloon sinuplasty procedure is performed under local anesthesia. As such, you will be completely awake, but you won’t feel any pain or discomfort. During the operation, your doctor will insert two tiny catheters into the nasal cavity. The first is attached to a light and a camera, and the second contains a balloon. The balloon will then be inflated to open the sinuses and clear the blockages. This relieves the pressure and encourages the mucus to drain properly.
You will be free to return home immediately and may resume your normal daily routine with 24 hours. In general, our patients experience immediate relief from sinus pain and uncomfortable symptoms. In recent clinical studies, most patients reported that they were still free from their sinus symptoms two years after their operation.
Each year, more than 37 million people suffer from acute or chronic sinusitis. It develops when the tissue that lines the sinuses becomes inflamed, causing mucus to develop that prevents the sinuses from draining properly. A blockage them forms throughout the nasal passages and creates a number of uncomfortable symptoms, including facial pain, pressure, congestion, postnasal drip, nasal drainage, headaches and more.
There are three types of sinusitis: acute (less than 4 weeks), subacute (4 to 12 weeks) and chronic (more than 12 weeks). There are a number of treatments available, including medical and natural therapies, as well as traditional and minimally-invasive surgeries. It’s estimated that 20 percent of chronic sinusitis patients cannot successfully treat their condition with medical therapy alone and instead require a procedure to obtain lasting relief.
SFENTA™ physicians are well-versed in the full range of conditions and symptoms that can affect the ear, nose and throat area. During your initial consultation, they will help you determine if balloon sinuplasty is the best course of action for your condition, or if you require a different treatment approach.
