Cosmetic Issues Addressed

  • Thin lips
  • Lip lines
  • A sunken upper lip
  • Compromised lip shape
  • Deflated lips that have lost their plumpness

What to Expect During the Procedure

Lip Lift

A lip lift can correct the shape of the upper lip, providing you with a more attractive, sultry smile. The top lip may be too long or thin due to the aging process, or simply due to genetics. When the space between the mouth and the nose is elongated, it can cause the lips to look unbalanced. A surgical lip lift can help to reveal more of the pink portion of the upper lip by removing a small amount of skin beneath the columella (the strip connecting the nostrils at the base of the nose).

Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation can be performed in three ways: through enhancement with autologous fat transfer; through the use of lip implants, and by using non-surgical dermal fillers to plump and refresh deflated lip contours. Our team will sit down with you during your consultation to determine the best approach for your goals, comfort levels, lifestyle, and aesthetic sensibilities. Regardless of the method used, lip augmentation can jumpstart your self-confidence, giving you a sexier, more youthful pout.

Recovery

After a lip lift, patients may experience some minor swelling or redness — side effects that typically last a few days. Because the swelling may distort the shape of the lips, it’s important that you do not judge your final results too quickly. Plan to have softer foods or liquids temporarily until your mouth feels back to normal. You can use over-the-counter pain medications and ice packs to improve your comfort level. Patients can return to work within 5 to 7 days.

For lip augmentation procedures, your recovery will depend on the method chosen to enhance your smile. We will provide you with a detailed aftercare plan that goes over what you can expect and how to care for your lips as you heal. If you underwent lip augmentation with dermal fillers, you will not experience any downtime; you’ll be able to return to work or school right away.

Results

Lip lift results can last indefinitely, as can lip augmentation performed with fat transfer or implants. If you choose to undergo lip augmentation with dermal fillers, your improvements will only last 6 to 12 months on average.

Candidacy

Ideal candidates for lip enhancement have seen age-related changes in the shape, fullness, and projection of their lips. They may have experienced an upper lip that has gradually drooped down, obscuring the inner pink portion and causing their mouth to look older.

Those patients pursuing surgery should be mentally and physically healthy and be free from any significant medical concerns. For any cosmetic procedure, clients should have realistic expectations cultivated by attending a private consultation with our experienced team of board-certified plastic surgeons and nurse injectors.

FAQ

Is a lip lift painful?

Lift lip surgery is hardly painful at all. You will receive an injection of local anesthesia into the upper lip area to numb the skin. You may feel minor pressure as your surgeon corrects your cosmetic issue, but this is similar to having dental work done where the sound and sensation are the only factors to make you uncomfortable. After the procedure, you will be able to take over-the-counter painkillers if needed.

What are the risks of a lip lift?

There are typically very few complications with a lip lift. However, the procedure should only be executed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon with an eye for artistry. Our surgeons minimize your risks through conservative techniques and a high degree of precision. That being said, every surgery comes with some inherent risks, which may include poor scarring, infections, loss of sensation, fluid accumulation, and poor cosmetic results.
