What is Chronic Sinusitis?

The sinuses are air-filled spaces behind the forehead, cheeks and eyes. When they get swollen and inflamed, they fill up with fluid and mucus, causing a wide array of uncomfortable symptoms such as congestion, headaches and pain behind the eyes and nose. When sinusitis doesn’t respond to medication or recurs frequently, it is known as chronic sinusitis. This is where balloon sinuplasty comes into the picture. Balloon sinuplasty can free up the blocked areas in your sinuses, allowing for proper drainage and healthy breathing.

Balloon Sinuplasty a quick and effective procedure with long-lasting results

In the past, the main treatment options for chronic sinusitis were medication and surgery. With this revolutionary procedure, we can achieve the results of surgery without any incisions.

Benefits of balloon sinuplasty include:

  • The procedure is quick: Balloon sinuplasty is an outpatient procedure that only takes about an hour.
  • Non-surgical: No incisions are needed, which means you won’t get any scars.
  • Recovery is easy: Most people can return to work a day or two after the procedure, and after a week, you should be able to resume all your regular activities.
  • Long-term relief: The results are long-lasting and the relief you experience should last for up to two years.

Balloon Sinuplasty Procedure

The balloon sinuplasty procedure is simple and straightforward. You will be seated comfortably in a reclining examination chair. Once your IV sedation and topical anesthetics have been administered, we will insert a small catheter into your nostril, using it to guide a tiny balloon to the blocked area of your sinuses. Here we will inflate the balloon slightly, using the pressure to free up the blocked passages. You should be able to notice improvements immediately. We will flush the area with saline, deflate the balloon and finally remove both the catheter and balloon. The entire procedure takes about an hour.

What is the Recovery Like?

Recovery after a balloon sinuplasty is usually quick and pain-free. You will be able to go home on the same day, and you should be able to return to work after 24-48 hours. During the first week after your procedure, you may experience some light congestion. Sleeping with your head elevated will help with drainage. We advise you to avoid any strenuous
