What is Sinus Surgery?

Sinus surgery is used to improve drainage and relieve pressure in the sinuses. It is often performed when other treatments, such as antibiotics, have failed to provide relief. The type of surgery performed will depend on the individual's anatomy and the severity of their condition. In some cases, a balloon is used to open the sinuses and improve drainage. In other cases, the surgeon may need to make an incision in the sinus cavity to clear away blockages. Our sinus surgery in Aventura is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning that the patient can go home the same day.

How Is Sinus Surgery Performed?

There are two main types of sinus surgery: endoscopic sinus surgery and Caldwell-Luc operation.

  • Endoscopic sinus surgery is performed using an endoscope, a thin, flexible tube equipped with a light and camera. The endoscope is inserted through the nose into the sinuses, and the surgeon uses it to guide small instruments to clear away blockages.
  • Caldwell-Luc operation is a more invasive type of sinus surgery that involves making an incision in the cheekbone to access the sinuses. This type of surgery is typically reserved for cases where other methods have failed.

How Long Is the Recovery From Sinus Surgery?

Recovery times vary depending on the extent of the surgery, but most people can expect to feel better within a few weeks. Sinus surgery can provide significant relief for those who suffer from chronic sinus problems. It is usually considered the best option after all other treatment options have been exhausted. A full recovery from sinus surgery in Aventura can take up to 2 weeks.
