Sinusitis Treatments

There are several different types of sinusitis treatments available, depending on the cause of your infection. If your infection is caused by bacteria, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics. If your infection is caused by a virus, over-the-counter medications can help to relieve your symptoms. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to treat chronic sinusitis. Talk to your doctor about the best treatment option for you.

Do I Have Chronic Sinusitis?

You may have chronic sinusitis if your symptoms last over 12 weeks or are reoccurring. Many people with chronic sinusitis find their symptoms are worse in the morning when they wake up due to the build-up of mucus overnight. Symptoms usually get worse when there is an infection such as a cold or flu. These may include headaches, bad breath, fatigue, decreased sense of smell, and fever. The symptoms of chronic sinusitis can significantly interfere with sleep and daily activities. If you suspect you have chronic sinusitis, see one of our highly trained providers for diagnosis and treatment options.

Do I Have To Treat My Sinusitis?

Mild cases of sinusitis may resolve on their own, however, without medical treatment for sinusitis, the infection may spread. This can cause serious health problems, including meningitis (inflammation of the brain and spinal cord) and brain abscesses (collections of pus in the brain). Untreated sinusitis can also cause damage to the bones in your face.
