Achieve lasting relief from your allergies

An allergic reaction occurs when your body detects a substance it considers dangerous and produces antibodies against it. These antibodies trigger the symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as itchy or watery eyes, sneezing, rashes, a runny or itchy nose, or wheezing. When you take oral medications, these suppress the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Allergy shots address your symptoms at their root, strengthening your immune system. In time, this reduces your allergy attacks or stops them altogether.

Are allergy shots a suitable treatment for me?

Allergy shots are recommended if you suffer from seasonal or environmental allergies that impact your daily life. If you have hay fever but want to enjoy being outdoors during the spring and summer, or if you suffer from dust allergies but still need to clean your home, allergy shots could help improve your quality of life. Allergy shots aren’t effective in treating latex, medication, or food allergies.

You may wish to consider allergy shots as a form of treatment if:

    • Your allergies affect you for more than three months in a year.
    • You need to use multiple medications to control your allergy symptoms.
    • You would like to be less dependent on oral medications.
    • You can’t easily avoid your allergy triggers.
    • You would like to treat the cause of your allergies rather than their symptoms.

How often will I need to get shots?

At the beginning of your treatment, you will be coming in to see your SFENTA doctor about once a week. The dose of the allergen given in your shot will be increased until you reach the maximum dose, at which point the frequency of your shots will decrease until you receive one shot per month.

These maintenance shots usually continue for about 3-5 years, depending on your unique circumstances and your response to treatment. We customize our treatment plans to match your needs and achieve the best possible outcome.

Will my allergy shots be painful?

The needles are tiny and short, as allergy shots are administered subcutaneously (underneath the skin). You should not feel any pain, and any discomfort should be minimal. After each shot, you will stay at our office for 30 minutes to ensure no side effects develop. You may experience redness or swelling around the injection site. This is normal and should subside within a few hours.

    Can children get allergy shots?

As allergy shots have been proven to help prevent the development of new allergies and asthma, they are particularly effective in children. We typically treat children five years or older, but this will depend on your child’s individual circumstances. Contact SFENTA Fort Lauderdale for information on allergy shots for children. We will be happy to schedule a consultation for you.
